Bespoke Commission - Saxon inspired garnet ring

Inspired! Sometimes you get a very unique brief and this was certainly one of them. My client was inspired by the Staffordshire Hoard of Saxon artifacts recently discovered. In amongst them was a truly beautiful gold and garnet button.
My challenge was to make a ring inspired by the button, and this is the final result. An amazing 5ct garnet cabochon gemstone is encased by a 14ct yellow gold dome. The gold base behind the stone was polished to a very high shine so the light reflects through the stone and shows flashes of intense red.
